Mishawaka Housing Authority - River View 500 Challenge: Modernize this seven-story, river front building for the elderly and add amenities to encourage socializing and recreation. Solution: Upgrade the building’s exterior envelope and outdated infrastructure; refurbish dwelling units and other areas adding warmth through new materials and color. A library with a sitting room on the main level was designed with a view of the main street activity. A river walk observation and activity area was also created. Solution: Exterior entrances were incorporated from patios to each living unit, as well as interior entrances that lead directly into large sky lit atriums that bring the outside in and encourage interaction among residents.
